New Medicaid Law

On February 8, 2006, President Bush signed the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 (DRA).  This law, among other things, makes drastic changes to the long-term care Medicaid Transfer of Assets rules.

Click here to read a basic overview of the DRA written by Families USA
For a more thorough review of the new law, click here for the National Health Law Program's publication.

The DRA also requires states to demand that its Medicaid recipients and applicants who are U.S. citizens provide documentation that they are in fact citizens.  Click here for the final Medicaid - Proof of Citizenship Fact Sheet from the federal government.  Among other things, this interim final regulation states that all persons who are Medicare beneficiaries are exempt from this new requirement.

White House Conference on Aging

From December 11 - 14, 2005 in Washington, DC, the fifth WHCoA in history was held.   The purpose was to make recommendations to the President and Congress to help guide national aging policies for the next ten years and beyond.  Connecticut was represented by several individuals.  Click here to visit the web site to view the resolutions passed and other reports.
